Bradford Academy’s Track and Field Team is Headed to the State Finals!

“Nothing is given, you have to work for it,” Rashon Maxwell, student-athlete from Bradford, said. “We have worked for this and leave everything on the track. We are focused and ready to get the job done at states.”

Six athletes from Bradford’s track and field team have qualified to compete in the state finals meet that takes place Saturday, June 1 at Jenison High School. This is the first time in many years that Bradford’s team has qualified for states.

The qualified athletes and their events are listed below:
Rashon Maxwell, 4×200 relay
Jordan Durant, 4×200 relay
Jalen Whitaker, 4×200 relay and long jump
Lyris Perkins, 300 hurdles
Ariel Clemons, 100 meter
Aniah Howard, long jump

“These students are amazing, especially if you take into consideration the odds that are against hem,” Dion Alexander, coach of the Bulldogs, commented. “They prevailed and should be very proud of what they have accomplished.”

“I coach based off of principles that I learned from great mentors who taught me the importance of discipline, hard work and the heart it takes to win — not only in sports but also life,” Alexander added.

“This year was different and we worked as a team. I feel like we are moving up and our team is so great and fun,” Jordan Durant, student-athlete from Bradford, commented. “This is our time and we are ready to compete.”

These athletes are not only amazing on the field, but they are also making an impression in the classroom. They have produced a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 as a team!
