✨New Staff Spotlight✨cheryl-tomlinson

Meet Cheryl Tomlinson, High School Reading Specialist!

“As a former principal, ELA instructional coach, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction, I look forward to merging these roles back into teaching and learning with my students, staff, and families. I want to share my knowledge and learn from others so that we can work together collectively on common goals for Bradford Academy. In the process, I want to laugh, have fun, and seize the moments of success even if the wins are small.”

  • What drew you to Bradford?
Bradford Academy’s mission is to instill character, excellence, creativity, and service into students so they are prepared globally. As the high school reading specialist, I want to merge these traits through cultivating a love of literacy for our student community. As our scholars prepare for college or career after high school– their reading proficiency will be a key factor in their success no matter what field of interest they choose to enter. I want to help in their preparation here at Bradford Academy.

  • Why did you choose to work in education?
Teaching is not just a career for me, it is a way of life. I have 23 years in this field, and I chose education because it was instilled in me at an early age that a quality education unlocks closed doors, opens new opportunities, and provides a comfortable life. Being a lifelong learner places one in a position to change injustices, elevate dated practices, and become a change agent in multiple situations. I wanted to help make a difference in students’ lives with a sense of motivation and love and skill for literacy that would place them in positions where they would win.

  • What are you most looking forward to for the 2020-2021 school year?
I am looking forward to getting to know my students, staff, and families. I want to know and understand where my students currently stand academically with their literacy skills and help them with noticeable improvements with their critical and analytical reading skills and their source-based writing skills (skills needed for college and career success). I am also looking forward to being a part of a team that works together for a common goal.
